Published apps won’t launch in Citrix

21 Dec

My team mates had a busy 2 days trying to troubleshoot a troublesome citrix server. The server was joined to a farm, but it refuses to launch any published applications, even notepad. He keeps getting this popup error:

The citrix server is unable to process your request to start this published application

But when he logon via a citrix desktop notepad launches just fine. My matey tried removing the server from the farm and rejoining it with no success.

Finally, he stumble upon this registry setting:

HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon

Key = Appsetup
Value = usrlogon.cmd, “cmd /c cmstart.exe”

This looks strange and when compare with a working server, he found that the second value was not correct.

Value = usrlogon.cmd, cmstart.exe

After replacing the value, the apps launched successfully! Good work matey!

It looks like the previous command tried to launch a shell to start cmstart.exe, thats why!
